Changing your Major, Minor, or Area of Emphasis

How to change your academic programs in ATHENA:

  • Majors: Always add the Intended version of a major if one is listed. Add your new major first then delete your old major.
  1. Log into Athena
  2. Select Student
  3. Select Student & Registration
  4. Select My Programs
  5. To add a major:
    • Select Add Major
    • Select your new major from the dropdown menu (Always add the “Intended” version of a major if one is listed.)
    • Select Next, then Confirm
    • The new major will now appear under My Majors
  6. To remove a major:
    • Select Remove Major
    • Select the major you wish to remove from the dropdown menu
    • Select Next, then Confirm
    • The major will no longer appear under My Majors

  • Minors: If the minor you want to add is not listed, check the following conditions.
    • See This Link
    • Some fine arts minors require application before they can be added.  Contact the department for more information.

Trouble-shooting

  • If the major or minor you declare requires approval, this will prevent any further changes until the approval is granted. If you get "stuck" you can cancel the request that needs approval, perform the other actions, and then resubmit the request that needs approval.
  • Athena works best in Chrome, Safari and Firefox.
  • Any problems or issues accessing Athena or making adjustments to your academic programs should be directed to the Office of the Registrar, (706) 542-4040.

Do you need a new advisor?

If you have declared a Franklin College major and have not yet been assigned an advisor, contact Pamela Ollie-Waller (706-542-1522 pollie@uga.edu) from your UGA email address. She will need:

  • your legal name
  • student ID number
  • description of the changes you’ve made to your academic programs

For advising questions:

Students with questions about where they will be advised should see the Franklin College advising webpage or contact us.
