First Year Advising

All first-year freshman at UGA will be advised in the Franklin College First Year Advising Office.  First year advising involves choosing courses to complete the UGA core, as well as selecting the appropriate sequence of introductory classes for a student’s major. First year advising is centralized in Franklin College’s Office of Academic Advising in 301 Brooks Hall.
(Franklin students in the Honors Program should visit Honors Program Advising for more information.)

  • First Year Advising Walk-In Hours
  • First Year Advising No-Show Policy:
    • Advising appointments must be cancelled before 8am of the day of the appointment. If a student cancels after 8am or does not show for their appointment, they are considered a “no-show” and must then make a “No-Show Advising Appointment.” These no-show appointments are offered on a limited basis after the midpoint of the semester. More information about this policy will be included in the email you receive if you no-show your appointment.

Major/Division Specific Advising

All incoming transfer students and students who have completed their first year at UGA will be advised by their division advisor.  These advising appointments focus on choosing courses that will progress students through their major and towards graduation.

Orientation Students

All incoming First-Year and Transfer students for Summer & Fall 2026 will be advised at their in-person orientation session. See our Information for Orientation Students for more details.
