Franklin College Requirements

Degree Information

The Franklin College of Arts & Sciences requires students to complete courses in areas that represent the breadth of disciplines and research in the College, specifically the liberal arts and sciences. The requirements are:

Courses that satisfy Franklin College requirements

  • must be at least 3 hours and at the 1000-5999 level.
  • may also be used to fulfil either general electives, Areas I-VI, major, minor, or certificate requirements.
  • can satisfy only one Franklin College requirement, with the exception of some courses approved for the Multicultural requirement. See “Silver Bullet” Courses for a complete list.

Degrees with Exceptions

The following majors require completion of only the Franklin College Multicultural requirement: BFA Art, BFA Art/Art Education, BFA Dance, BFA Interdisciplinary Studies, BSCHEM Chemistry, BMUS Music Education & BMUS Music Therapy.

The following BMUS Majors must complete all Franklin College requirements: BMUS Music Composition, BMUS Music Performance, and BMUS Music Theory.
